How to give coordinates and a map for your marine licence application
We need an accurate description of where you want to carry out your project. This is so we can assess any impact it may have on the environment or other sea users.
Providing coordinates
We prefer coordinates to be in latitude and longitude. They should be to four decimal places, for example Lat 52.1234 Long -4.1234.
We need enough coordinates to form a polygon. This means three or more.
If your work is in a very precise location (for example, if you are replacing a single pile) then you can provide the exact coordinate of that single point.
If you have more than nine coordinates you must upload them in an Excel spreadsheet.
If you have a Shapefile, you can send that to us as well as the Excel spreadsheet.
Providing a map
We need a map of the location as well as coordinates, so we can confirm the coordinates are correct.
You can send us an Ordnance Survey map or an Admiralty nautical chart, or both.
Your map must be scaled so we can see a detailed view of the area where you will be carrying out your activity.
Include a north arrow so that we can correctly identify the orientation of the map.
