Areas benefiting from flood defences
The hatching on the map shows areas that benefit from defences against flooding from rivers and the sea. These defences have different levels of protection, as recognised in the different flood risk levels and Standard of Protection shown on the map.
Standard of Protection is given in figures, for example 75. This means the structure defends against a 1 in 75-chance flood in any given year. This refers to the likelihood of a flood of that scale happening, according to flood models. A 1 in 75 year flood will be less severe than a 1 in 200 year flood.
Flood defences reduce, but do not completely stop the chance of flooding as they can be overtopped or fail.
We will add flood defences and areas benefitting from flood defences to the map, as they become available.
